Meet the Designer- Tamsin Rennie from Studio Seed

Meet Tamsin Rennie, Creative Director at Studio Seed.

Studio Seed is fast becoming our favourite stylish stationery brand here at Edie & Rona so we jumped at the chance to ask the amazingly talented Tamsin Rennie about life as a luxe stationer.

A little bit about Tamsin, in her own words

Well, I'm a 5ft nothing designer, wife, sister, daughter and now Mama! I am a self confessed workaholic but I don't like to take life too seriously, I genuinely love what I do. I am partial to a glass of Rose (dry, with ice) chocolate oranges and rubbish television. (currently loving airport programmes). I live in Leamington Spa with my husband, cats, dog and our new daughter, Valentina.

What is the story behind the 'Studio Seed' name, logo & strapline?

The name 'Studio Seed' comes from my maiden name (Seed) - when I got married I took my husband's last name safe in the knowledge that the Seed name would live on through my business. Our strapline is "making life more beautiful" - I hope this reflects the beautiful aesthetic of our products and hope to inspire customers to keep spreading the paper love, one beautiful note at a time!

Where do you get your design inspiration from?

My design inspiration comes from all sorts of sources. I always design collections focussed towards our customers - expressive women: wives-to-be, mothers, daughters, sisters, lovers - who value affection and heart-felt communication... I look to fashion for inspiration for colours and embellishment, different illustrators and painters to inspire new styles and good old Instagram is always a great source of creativity.

What's your favourite part of the creative process & why?

My favourite part of the design process is when I finally see a range coming together... sometimes the creation of a card range or pulling together products for a collection can be a bit haphazard, but when I finally see the 'look' forming and I can visualise the final collection, it's really thrilling and I get super excited to see the finished things!

What were you doing before 'Studio Seed'?

Before Studio Seed I worked in house as a designer for Tigerprint, which is a division of Hallmark Cards whose only customer is Marks and Spencer. So I designed cards, gift wrap, stationery and gifting products which I would regularly see in store - I absolutely loved every minute of it and learned a lot.

What has been your greatest achievement in your career to date?

Pinpointing the greatest achivement in my career so far is a tough one...! Having bespoke orders from amazing celebrities is always fun and being stocked in some of the UK's most prestigious stores (including Fortnum & Mason) is pretty cool. But I think that the best achievement is that I'm actually making a living with a business that I've built up from scratch and going to work everyday doing something I adore. And there's even bigger things to come so I'm super excited about the future when I try my hand at rocking motherhood along with the business... wish me luck!

Fun stuff...

Best holiday destination: Santorini is the most incredible island and I'd love to go back one day
When I was a child... I wanted to be a doctor! But then I realised I didn't really like blood so that went down the pan!
Email or handwritten note:  handwritten all the way! (I LOVE getting post!)
Date to the Oscars: TOM HARDY TOM HARDY TOM HARDY (or if my husband is reading this, my husband)
Highlighter or fountain pen: neither... I don't get on with neon or scratchy nibs... I prefer a 0.5 nib fineliner!

A note from Julie- founder of Edie & Rona.:

I would like to add my special thanks to Tamsin who is currently on maternity leave from Studio Seed looking after her best creation to date, baby Valentina. Enjoy every minute Tamsin xx

I love reading about women who have worked to build their own businesses up. It's my dream to work for myself eventually, I really admire people who have done it. I realised when reading this that I have a Studio Seed notebook and they are really lovely, they feel so beautiful just to hold and use. Well done Tamsin!
